THANK YOU to our rally partners and new voters!

On Tuesday September 25th, BOSS and dozens of community partners held a special Get Out The Vote Rally in front of Oakland City Hall from 11 am-2 pm, in an effort to register people to vote, provide voter rights information, and connect people with needed resources.

The Alameda County Voter Registrar’s Office was there to register people on the spot, hand out voter registration cards, and answer questions, as well as tables with staff from the League of Women Voters of Oakland, ACLU Northern California, Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, All Of Us Or None, and other agencies with critical information and resources to share.

The Alameda County Community Food Bank was on hand with their mobile food pantry, giving out bags of groceries to all who requested it. The Oakland Public Library was even there with a bike-powered bookmobile with free books!

Between 12 and 1 pm, guest speakers included State Assemblyman Rob Bonta, John Jones (Curyj), Anita Willis (Essie Justice Group), Deleign Thompson (League of Women Voters of Oakland), Dauras Cyprian (All Of Us Or None), Sheila Burks (Alameda County Community Food Bank), and Donald Frazier (BOSS). All spoke to the challenges facing black and brown communities, poor communities, the disabled, and others facing discrimination and policy-induced inequity – and the power of our VOTES to make change.

From local activists fighting for increased shelter for the homeless to activists on the national stage fighting so the voice of assault victims is heard, civic participation has never been more important. Each and every vote counts towards letting policy makers know what matters to our communities!
