Alameda County is facing a SHELTER EMERGENCY, with the County's Quarantine Facilities at Maximum Capacity. Due to the current Omicron variant crisis, the COVID-19 quarantine facilities for those suffering homelessness in Alameda County are at capacity, according to the County.
BOSS refers people in our shelters who test positive to these facilities, and individuals are referred there as needed from other shelters County-wide. In lieu of using these facilities, clients who test positive for COVID-19 would have to be placed in market-rate hotel rooms for their 10-day isolation period, which is advised for communal living, because isolating safely at the shelter is nearly impossible.
Testing is an important tool to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Public health experts and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that Americans use at-home tests if they begin to have symptoms, at least five days after coming in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, or are gathering indoors with a group of people who are at risk of severe disease or unvaccinated.
Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests are completely free. Protect yourselves and your family and visit "FREE TEST" to have your tests delivered at home.
If you need a COVID-19 test now, please see other testing resources for free testing locations in your area here.
