BOSS opened the South County Homeless Project in 1989, providing 24 emergency shelter beds and on-site services to homeless individuals in Hayward who are experiencing mental illness. Funded by Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services Agency, SCHP provides 24/7 safe accommodation and services to homeless people in Hayward.
The program will soon be undergoing some key upgrades to continue to maintain a safe and high quality facility, including installing an HVAC system, upgrading both the men’s and women’s bathrooms, and fire/life/safety upgrades (FLS).
The work will be done in phases so that no one need vacate the shelter while the work is taking place, and there is minimal disruption.
SCHP needs your help! Volunteers support the program with a variety of activities – tending the therapeutic garden in the backyard, clerical/office help, or teaching meditation, yoga or life skills classes to residents.
