For the past two years, Californians for Safety and Justice, a statewide criminal justice reform organization, brought together experts in the fields of criminal justice, social justice, and community economic development to conduct research on the experiences of people with convictions and make recommendations on how to improve their path forward.
Two BOSS staff were part of this convening – BOSS Executive Director Donald Frazier and BOSS Director of Reentry Strategic Partnerships Tim Smith. The Breaking Barriers forum BOSS convened last year was also part of this statewide data gathering effort.
Below is the report that results from these in-depth, statewide, collaborative efforts – a roadmap for reform that will help returning citizens become fully participating, contributing members of the community after paying their debt to society:
