The event was orchestrated by the Executive Director, Cheauvon Brown, who says the conference was a four year vision of hers. The conference included a panel discussion featuring six women. Many of the women are reentry and each woman spoke about their background, experience, and success story.
One of the six panelists included a BOSS participant from our Career Training and Employment Center (CTEC), Christina Perkins. Christina recently went through CTEC’s job readiness program and obtained employment as a Healthcare Provider with help from CTEC.
Christina was connected to Cheauvon through the Women Empowerment Movement group held at CTEC every other Thursday. The women’s group is voluntarily facilitated by Cheauvon to offer support, assistance, and resources to our participants, many of whom are re-entry.
The other five panelists at the conference included:
- Gloria Lockhart, published author
- April Amey, reentry case manager with St. Joseph’s Center in L.A.
- Xochtil Larios, community activist
- Katie Dixon, Policy Fellow with All of Us or None
- Denese Dillihant, Health Right 360.
BOSS staff present included, Charlette Viney, Executive Administrator at CTEC and Jerry Elster, Program Coordinator at Hope Reentry. Jerry is also the Board Vice President with Justice Now, which offers legal assistance for women currently inside prison.
CTEC and all of BOSS are very proud of Christina, who did an excellent job sharing her story! Thank you to Cheauvon Brown for making this incredible conference a reality!
