CTEC Hazmat Training

Hazmat Training is Giving Opportunities

CTEC Hazmat Training
The January Hazmat Training at CTEC

Recently the Career Training & Employment Center (CTEC) had its first ever Cal-OSHA Hazmat Training for interested participants. More than 20 participants signed up for and attended this 8-hour training!

Cal-OSHA Hazmat Training is the first step in a process that could very well give all of these men and women access to incredibly well-paying and stable careers. This training was only 8-hours, but in future we will be providing the full 40-hour trainings which give every person who completes the training and passes the associated test a Transportation Worker Identification Credential also known as a TWIC Card. This card give people access to jobs working as dockworkers, longshoremen, waste management personnel, refinery positions and many many more! All of these positions are Union jobs, many running through International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local #6.

While these jobs do have an element of danger, they also offer stringent safety codes and standards, as well as strict oversight, great benefits packages, and high pay – a quick job search on craigslist shows almost 100 listings with pay rates of $22 an hour to $3500 a week, and Idealist has hundreds of local jobs paying from $18 an hour to $80,000 a year: These are careers!

The BOSS CTEC program was able to secure the trainings and the TWIC Cards for all eligible participants for FREE, a training and application process that typically runs between $150 and $300.

We are so grateful for the amazing opportunity and the near limitless hope that these trainings provide and look forward to the great things that our graduates will be able to do in future because of these trainings. This is truly Turning Lives Around!
