Please join BOSS this Saturday June 8, 2019 at Oakland’s first Safe Oakland Summit at the Oakland Marriott City Center 1001 Broadway, Oakland! (9am-4pm) Register here:

In collaboration with law makers and a number of local residents and grassroots organizations called the Violence Prevention Coalition, the community passed legislation to create Oakland’s first Department of Violence Prevention (DVP) with a goal to reduce homicide, sex trafficking of minors and domestic abuse cases by 80% in 3 years. It’s going to take radical ideas and leadership to reach this goal! This is about saving lives and creating a safer more prosperous future for our folks!

This Saturday, Oakland community members will engage in a conversation on how to eradicate gun violence, end the commercial and sexual exploitation of our youth, end domestic intimate partner violence, and enhance family support services. The DVP will share the results of its survey of over 500 residents from impacted communities in Oakland!

BOSS’s very own West Oakland Street Outreach Team will be in the house full force and facilitating the Gun Violence Workshop with community leaders. Over 110 individuals have registered for the Gun Workshop so far.

The solutions raised by community will become the recommendations for the newly hired Chief of Violence Prevention. Together with community and local organizations, the Chief will utilize support from community wisdom to help drive the DVP and work to create a Safer Oakland. It’s going to take all of us! Please join us!
