Career Training and Employment Center (CTEC)

The Downtown Neighborhood Impact Hub is the current home to our CTEC program, which will expand to our East and West Oakland Neighborhood Impact Hubs in the future. CTEC provides a wealth of resources that includes education, job training, and employment services for anyone with barriers to employment, including those who have been impacted by the justice system. CTEC provides free case management, career and computer training, GED classes, mentorship and peer support, links to outside service providers, transportation assistance, college enrollment assistance/guidance and much more. CTEC has relationships with second-chance employers who hire individuals with criminal backgrounds.

CTEC partners include Five Keys Schools and Programs, Peralta Community College District (Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, Merritt College), and Cypress Mandela Training Center.

Eligibility

Open to the community. Individuals who are low-income, formerly incarcerated and/or system-impacted are encouraged to visit. Individuals referred by Alameda County Probation can receive a stipend for transitional work placements.

Annual CTEC Graduation

Every year BOSS holds a graduation celebration to honor the men and women who have completed the BOSS Career Training and Employment Center (CTEC) program and are now gainfully employed! With live entertainment, guest speakers, dinner, and special awards, the Graduation showcases their successes as well as thanking local employers who are committed to second chance hiring and highlighting the policy, civic, and faith leaders who are creating new opportunities for justice involved individuals.

For many graduates, it’s their first graduation or first time they’ve been recognized for their hard work and determination – they are joined by proud family members and receive love and accolades from the whole community!
