Cal Fraternity Supports BOSS Children’s Learning Center

In March, BOSS was approached by a young man named Kevin Kaiwen Qi. He is a leader of the Triangle Fraternity at UC Berkeley. They were looking to hold a fundraiser for a local nonprofit and hearing about BOSS and what we do really struck these young leaders as important work. After meeting with BOSS Development Director, Sonja Fitz, the fraternity decided to host a Casino Night FUNdraiser with all proceeds going to the BOSS Children’s Learning Center.

On Friday, April 22nd, the fraternity opened its doors to the community! Kevin, who loves to cook made pasta and garlic bread for the attendees, while many of his fraternity brothers played at being the Dealers for current Cal students, local Berkeley residents, and even several Triangle Fraternity/Sorority Alum!

IMG_4178Kevin reported that “The event was lots of fun! The attendees all enjoyed it lots! Many of our alumni came out to support and they definitely enjoyed it too!”

After all the chips were counted and tallied, the red Solo cups recycled, and the brothers determined the final expenses for the event, they discovered that they had raised over $400!! All that goes to helping homeless kids in the BOSS Children’s Learning Center or CLC. The CLC serves children in BOSS’s Berkeley shelter & housing program, offering tutoring, a computer lab, reading & play time, and social support. Funds will pay for CLC school supplies and tutoring assistance!

It is through wonderful people like Kevin an his fraternity brothers, and organizations like Triangle Fraternity & Sorority that BOSS is able to do what we do. We so appreciate their kind support.
