Every year, families and individuals in BOSS programs work hard to find affordable homes, living wage jobs, and resources to increase their educations, social connections, physical health, and long-term healing from trauma. The holidays can be a particularly painful time for people without homes, those coming out of prison, those escaping domestic or community violence – BOSS participants may be separated from family members, are going through substance abuse recovery, dealing with serious health challenges, or trying to find work.

Along with providing services to help people achieve their goals, BOSS tries to give everyone in our programs a safe, warm, memorable holiday experience – made possible with the overwhelming support from our community!

This year once again, dozens of individuals and groups are collecting gifts, warm coats, and other items for BOSS participants, including (listed alphabetically):

  • Barbara Cohen
  • Berkeley Holiday Fund
  • Berkeley Police Department
  • City of Berkeley Parks & Rec
  • Duck’s Nest Preschool
  • Ecology Center
  • ELS Architecture and Urban Design
  • Family Giving Tree
  • Fourth Street businesses
  • Head Royce School
  • Julie Absey
  • KONO and Oakland First Fridays
  • Martha Sellers & Girl Scout Troop #30647
  • Megan Gadsby & Albany Girl Scouts
  • One Warm Coat
  • UC Berkeley Residence Hall Association
  • UC Berkeley c/o Charles Heinz-Supply Chain Management, Supply Chain Solutions

These collections do more than put a foil-wrapped gift box under the tree or a holiday meal on the table for those who would otherwise do without – they remind people that the community cares about them, supports them, and believes in them no matter what they are going through right now. They make people feel remembered, and feel loved.

In addition to providing gifts and needed items, our residential programs (shelters and interim housing programs) decorate the community space, and plan special holiday meals.

Thank you so much to everyone who is supporting our holiday campaign this year and who supports BOSS all year long – all of us at BOSS wish you and your families a safe, healthy and joyful holiday season and new year!
