On Saturday August 30th, friends and supporters of BOSS put on their race finery and gathered at Golden Gate Fields to root for the horses…and for the good work BOSS does turning lives round.
At the 2nd Annual BOSS Day At The Races, about forty people populated the blue-diamond-marked BOSS section of the Turf Club and enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch, along with the gorgeous view of the track and surrounding East Bay hills. The marquis in the center of the field listed all the groups present at the track that day, including BOSS – every time BOSS popped up on the screen, we gave it a round of applause!
At 2:45, a special race was held in BOSS’s name—won by Central Heat, ridden by Russell Baze. All proceeds from the event were used to support BOSS’s array of programs that help homeless people build skills, access services, and achieve stable income and affordable housing. We are so grateful to everyone who bought a ticket to attend—and to those who could not attend but bought tickets so others could attend in their place!
Invitations to the BOSS Day at the Races had asked guests to bring a donation of school supplies for the homeless children in BOSS programs—those who did so had their names put into a hat, from which we drew a winner: a bottle of Buzzerkeley brew, and a set of cards with art by the children in BOSS programs. The winner was none other than Samantha Frazier, daughter of Executive Director Donald Frazier!
Please join us next year for another great day at the track—all for a wonderful cause: helping our community members rebuild their lives!
