Salary: $17.21 to $21 depending on experience, training and education.

On-call positions available – must be available evenings (3PM to 11 PM shifts and/or 11 PM to 7 AM and and/or weekends on a regular basis On-call daytime shifts become available as well. Must be available to work with short notice.
The Behavioral Health Technician is primarily responsible to care for and support participants in the shelter as they seek to find housing while addressing barriers to housing including income, mental health challenges, and other obstacles. The position engages with and motivates participants, supports the maintenance of community standards. They will partner with participants and staff to maintain a safe, healthy environment that supports participant wellness and recovery goals. This position provides an excellent opportunity to work and learn in a vibrant, challenging social services venue.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Duties include orientation of new participants to the program and its expectations. Completion of accurate documentation as required and strict adherence to program procedures. professionalism, ethics and boundaries.
- Will provide supervision and support to participants in the carrying out of shelter guidelines, completing chores, and support in living out their housing plans.
- Set and contribute to a safe, dignified, orderly atmosphere by clearly communicating program expectations, and guidelines. Act as a role model – guiding and teaching skills.
- Provide support to clients regarding daily living skills, self-care, personal interaction, social relationships and constructive time management through the lens of Trauma Informed Care. Looking for someone who can as a part of a team get on board with a shared vision and purpose for how the shelter is to operate in how to best support program participants.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with participants and staff; Respond to participant requests in a professional and courteous manner; Observe and adhere to participant confidentiality standards.
- Ensure the safety of participants by limiting access to facility to participants, staff, and authorized visitors and service providers; help to ensure adequate health and safety standards are maintained throughout the facility.
- Perform daily maintenance, cleaning and kitchen duties (assist in preparing living units for incoming participants, cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and dining areas, daily upkeep and cleaning of shelter and office areas);
- Follow strict agency COVID-19 protocols and work with staff and participants to ensure that all are COVID-19 policies are being maintained and enforced.
- Maintain thorough and accurate records, files, correspondence and statistics; Complete necessary documentation (both hand-written and computer based/data entry) in a timely, accurate, complete and legible manner. May include, but not limited to: notations in the shelter log, bed roster, incident reports, late arrivals, sign-in sheets, referrals, showers and laundry schedules, and any other forms used or as directed by your supervisor. Be able to provide administrative support to include proficiency in the use of the computer, and in writing clear and concise reports as needed.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies including contacting appropriate staff and supervisor(s), interacting with police, fire, and medical personnel as needed.

- High School Diploma or GED required; BHT Certification preferred
- Possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
- Position requires routine TB (Tuberculosis) testing and documentation.
- Background checks required.
- Able and willing to travel locally as needed.
- Knowledge of issues facing program participants (e.g. substance use, mental health, domestic violence, resources for undocumented individuals, workplace reintegration, etc.).
- Looking for someone who sees this as more than just a job. Someone who sees their role as that of working with program participants to become stable, economically, mentally and physically.
- Sensitivity to the needs of singles and homeless families; Able and willing to work with diverse staff and participant populations. Looking for someone who is caring and compassionate. Must demonstrate a willingness to work with participants from a service, strength based model, supporting clients in finding financial, emotional and physical stability.
- Supportive, patient, responsible, energetic and a team player. Strong written/oral communication skills; computer literate; proficient in the use and operation of computers and basic MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).
- Must be able to conduct extensive charting, data entry and documentation of services, incidents and other relevant information. Looking for someone who can adhere to agency expectations for maintaining logs, writing reports, and inputting data regarding clients through the use of the computer.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, business correspondence and all other mental health related documents. Ability to write clear, concise and accurate correspondence. Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Demonstrated skill with problem solving techniques.
Essential functions of the position may require use of a telephone, work at a standard computer terminal and the ability to follow reasonable ergonomic recommendations, sit for long periods, stand, reach, lift and carry 40 pounds, bend and climb ladders. Must be able to navigate several flights of stairs many times a day.

This position requires the individual to work with minimal supervision. Guidance is available as necessary, however, the individual is expected to be able to function autonomously and make individual decisions when appropriate. Position does require ability to interact with a variety of individuals and the ability to meet deadlines and time pressure based on the volume of work.
