Volunteers Decorating a Christmas Tree at The Village

The 2015 Winter Holidays, Celebrated BOSS Style

The Holidays are a time of family gatherings and celebration. Every year the BOSS family continues this tradition with our residents, program participants, staff, and community partners! This year was no exception – but it was truly exceptional!

Hotel Shattuck Plaza donated christmas trees to all of our residential programs. Because of their generosity, every BOSS residential facility had a lovely tree, bright and happy with decorations, that filled the air with the smells of Christmas.

Warm Wishes provided each of our participants with a well-constructed “street pack” filled with the basic essentials needed for people without stable housing, including a scarf, gloves, a pair of warm socks, and a pancho.

We had a record number of TEN families “adopted” this year by individuals, families, and organizations in the community. Last year we had 2! Adopt-A-Family is a program where gifts are purchased for every person in the family. Ten Families had brighter holidays as parents and children all received gifts from the community!

Every adult in a BOSS housing residence received a gift, purchased specifically for them, from Family Giving Tree, an Alameda County organization that matches individuals who want to give, with individuals who are in need.

We had many individuals donate gift cards. Several schools in Berkeley encouraged students and their families to to purchase gifts for BOSS residents.

All-in-all we had hundreds of individuals and families purchase hundreds of gifts making this holiday season far better, and happier, and more normal than it otherwise would have been. The kindness of the people who went out of their way to help impoverished individuals and families made for a joyful beginning to 2016.

If you helped out this year, Thank You. If you would like to help the BOSS family please contact Gwen at gaustin@self-sufficiency.org
